ASTM A36 hot rolled low carbon steel sheet has a carbon content of ≤0.25%, a yield strength of ≥250MPa, and an elongation of ≥20%. It is suitable for light-load structures such as building frames and equipment housings. Its excellent cold bending performance supports the processing of complex components. Compared with ordinary carbon steel, A36 sheet (1.5-8mm) achieves ASTM 7-8 grain size through hot rolling process, and the surface finish Ra≤3.2μm.
A572 grade 50 sheet contains Nb-V microalloying elements, has a yield strength of ≥345MPa, a tensile strength of 450-600MPa, and a thickness of 1.5-25.4mm. It is particularly suitable for high-strength and lightweight scenarios such as truck beams and storage shelves. Its carbon equivalent CEIIW≤0.45%, supports MIG/MAG welding, and the hardness of the heat-affected zone is ≤250HV.
Both types of thin plates meet ASTM standards. A36 has a lower cost but its strength is 38% lower than that of A572 grade 50. The latter can increase its impact energy to more than 34J at -30℃ through normalizing treatment, meeting the needs of cold region projects. The surface can be galvanized or sprayed, and the salt spray test is ≥500h.
