ASTM A992 is an optimized version of A572 grade 50, specifically designed for wide flange beams (W-shaped steel), with a minimum yield strength of 345MPa and a carbon equivalent of ≤ 0.45%. Its flange thickness can reach 40mm, and it adopts controlled rolling and cooling technology to ensure Z-direction performance, which is suitable for high-rise building bending structures.
Compared to ordinary Q355B H-beam, A992 has stricter phosphorus and sulfur control (P ≤ 0.025%), and its resistance to laminar tearing is improved by 30%. A typical cross-section of W24 × 62 allows for deflection control within L/360 when the span is 18 meters.
A572 grade 50 steel material is widely used in North American steel structure building frames, and the rolling tolerance requirements of American standard ASTM A6/A6M should be noted for domestic and foreign projects. It is recommended to use low hydrogen welding rods and perform PWHT to eliminate residual stress during welding.
