API 5L is a specification for pipeline steel pipe formulated by the American Petroleum Institute. The main steel grades in API 5L are: A, B, X42, X46, X52, X56, X60, X65, X70, X80, X90, X100, X120, etc. In API standard, pipeline steels are divided into PSL1 and PSL2. In the standard, there are slight differences in chemical composition, NM600 steel plate mechanical properties, inspection items, acceptance standards, delivery status, etc between PSL1 and PSL2 steel. For example, API 5L PSL1 X42 requires an upper carbon limit of 0.26, while API 5L PSL2 X42 requires an upper carbon limit of 0.24.

The weldability of NM600 steel plate is good. It means that under certain process and construction conditions, NM600 steel plate can obtain good performance after welding. Weldability is a measure of the hot workability of steel. Weldability can be divided into weldability in construction and weldability in use. Weldability in construction refers to the sensitivity of cracking in weld metal and near seam zone, and hardening sensitivity of steel in near seam zone. Good weldability means that under certain welding process conditions, the weld metal and steel near the seam do not produce cracks. Weldability in use means that the mechanical properties of weld and HAZ steel are not lower than those of base metal.

Chemical composition (C: 0.08 to 0.20; Cr: ≤0.30; Si: ≤0.40; Cu: ≤0.30;Mn: 0.90 to 1.50; Mo: ≤0.08;P: ≤0.025; Nb: ≤0.020;S: ≤0.015; Ni: ≤0.30;Al: ≤0.020; Ti: 0.03; N: ≤0.012; Vi: ≤0.02). The yield Strength MPa (min) of P295GH steel plate with thickness less than 16mm is 295MPa, and the tensile strength is 460-580MPa.
