According to the data released by Japan Iron & Steel Federation (JISF) on August 31, Japan's exports of plain carbon steel in July fell by 18.7% year-on-year to about 1.6 million tons, the third consecutive month of year-on-year decline. From January to July, Japan exported 12.6 million tons of plain carbon steel, a year-on-year decrease of 1.4%.
In July, Japan's export volume of hot-rolled wide strip steel, the largest export volume of ordinary carbon steel, was about 851800 tons, down 15.3% year-on-year.
"Despite the obvious recovery of the Chinese market, Japan's steel exports to other countries and regions are still weak due to the sluggish global market demand. Given that in March (before the start of the month-on-month decline in Japanese steel exports), the export volume of plain carbon steel reached 2.33 million tons. The severity of the impact of the new crown pneumonia epidemic on the Japanese steel export market is obvious." The staff of the JISF pointed out.
In addition, Japan imported 277300 tons of plain carbon steel in July, a year-on-year decrease of 32% and a month on month decrease of 13.3%. Among them, the import volume of hot-rolled wide strip steel ranked first with 86600 tons, down 32% year-on-year and 11.5% month on month. From January to July, Japan imported 2.36 million tons of plain carbon steel, a year-on-year decrease of 18.5%.
