China's stainless steel production, import and export in the first quarter of 2020

On May 7, 2020, the stainless steel branch of China Association of special steel enterprises announced the following statistics on the production, import and export, and apparent consumption of stainless steel in the first quarter of 2020:

1. In the first quarter of 2020, the output of crude stainless steel in China was 6.0799 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 604200 tons or 9.04% compared with the first quarter of 2019. Among them:
The output of Cr Ni stainless steel is 3.0813 million tons, decreased by 248000 tons, decreased by 7.45%;
The output of Cr Mn stainless steel (including some products that do not meet the international standards) is 1688500 tons, 439300 tons less, 20.64% less;
The output of CR series stainless steel was 1.272 million tons, increased by 92100 tons, increased by 7.81%;
The output of duplex stainless steel is 38155 tons.

2. Import and export volume
In the first quarter of 2020, China imported 210600 tons of stainless steel, a year-on-year decrease of 246600 tons from the first quarter of 2019, a decrease of 53.94%;
In the first quarter of 2020, China exported 810000 tons of stainless steel, an increase of 12700 tons, or 1.59%.

3. Apparent consumption
In the first quarter of 2020, the apparent consumption of stainless steel was 4.9029 million tons, decreasing by 806100 tons or 14.12% compared with that in the first quarter of 2019.
