API 5L steel is pipeline steel mainly for use in oil and gas industry. API 5L steel has PSL1 and PSL2 levels. For same API 5L steel grade, the carbon content for PSL1 is higher than PSL2. Meanwhile, the API 5L PSL2 steel has more strict requirement for P, S content than API 5L PSL1 steel, corten a steel grade. Therefore, API 5L PSL2 steel strength is higher than API 5L PSL1 steel strength. For example, API 5L X42 PSL2 yield strength is 317-524 MPa, tensile strength is 434-758 MPa. While API 5L X42 PSL1 yield strength is 290 MPa min. , tensile strength is 414 MPa min.
