Application and heat treatment of ASTM A572 steel material

CortenB vs 45#: Corten B medium-carbon quenched and tempered steel has higher strength, toughness and hardenability than 45# steel. Corten B steel can obtain better comprehensive mechanical properties after quenching and tempering. The cutting performance is still good, but the welding performance is poor, the cold deformation plasticity is low, and the temper brittleness tendency. It is generally used in quenched and tempered state, and can also be used in quenched, tempered or normalized state.

ASTM A572 steel material, 30CrMnSiA steel plate is a kind of low alloy high strength steel with medium carbon, high strength and good weldability. After quenching and tempering, 30CrMnSiA steel has high strength, enough toughness and good hardenability. After quenching and tempering, 30CrMnSiA steel can be used as grinding wheel shaft, gear and sprocket. 30CrMnSiA steel has good processability, small deformation and good fatigue resistance. 30CrMnSiA steel is usually used for shaft, piston parts, etc. It is used for various special wear-resistant parts of automobiles and airplanes.

The cold bending method is mainly used to produce cold-formed section steel and welded pipe. The cold bending method is to bend the steel strip or steel plate into various cross-section shapes by the cold bending machine in the cold state. If the ASTM A572 steel material steel pipe is bent into a circular, square or other hollow shape and welded by a proper welding method, it is a welded pipe. The advantages of cold bending: first, the cold-formed section steel is light in weight and large in bearing capacity, and it can save metal by replacing the hot-rolled section steel; second, it can produce all kinds of ASTM A572 steel material extremely thin, extremely wide and complex section steel which can not be produced by hot rolling.

A36 is American Standard ASTM material, SS400 is Japanese Standard JIS g3101 steel material for general structure, Q235 is Chinese standard GB700 material. The limitation of the content of the Mn element differs depending on the thickness of the A36 steel plate, and the A36 steel plate of 20 mm or less does not contain Mn. The ASTM A572 steel material, Q235 steel plate has requirements for the contents of C, Si, Mn, S, P and other elements. But SS400 steel plate only requires S and P to be less than 0.050, and no other element requirements.
